68 + 49

I wrote this yesterday in honor of the 49th anniversary of Martin Luther King’s assassination. Jenina thought it was too good to not share with you all here. – A<3

They killed Martin this day

They silenced him

They built a monument to him

And painted it white

They took his dream

And painted it white

They left his wife a widow

With a bunch of little kids

They robbed them of his embrace

And his advice about cooking

And life.

They gave his white washed

White bread legacy to white people

To silence his.

They took his life and gave us lies.

They forget that

Even though we don’t write the history books

Our parents and grandparents were there

They remember

And they tell.

We won’t forget.
